During the last financial year, £51 million was stolen from people aged 70 and over through Fraud by Abuse of Position.

These crimes are committed by individuals who have been trusted to act in the victim's best interests, making them particularly difficult to spot and incredibly damaging for those affected.

⚠️ Know the warning signs: 

• Unpaid bills or financial difficulties with no obvious explanation

 • Unexplained withdrawals or spending

 • Secrecy or reluctance to discuss finances

 • Missing possessions or valuables

 • Sudden changes to bank accounts, legal documents, or wills

If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts. Early reporting can help prevent further harm and protect those who may be at risk.

Detective Superintendent Oliver Little, from the Lead Force Operations Room at City of London Police, said:

"These offences can have a devastating impact because they are committed by people who have been trusted to act in the victim's best interests. The fact that people aged 70 or over had more than £51 million stolen highlights the significant threat this fraud poses to older and sometimes more vulnerable members of our communities. We want families, carers and those responsible for managing another person's affairs to know the warning signs and report concerns, so we can better protect those at risk."

Caiff y troseddau yma eu cyflawni gan unigolion sydd wedi'u hymddiried i weithredu er lles gorau'r dioddefwr, gan ei wneud yn arbennig o anodd i’w adnabod ac yn eithriadol o niweidiol i'r rhai yr effeithir.

⚠️ Adnabod yr arwyddion rhybudd: 

• Biliau heb eu talu neu anawsterau ariannol heb esboniad amlwg

• Tynnu arian neu wariant na ellir ei egluro

• Cyfrinachedd neu amharodrwydd i drafod materion ariannol

• Meddiannau neu eitemau gwerthfawr ar goll

• Newidiadau sydyn i gyfrifon banc, dogfennau cyfreithiol neu ewyllys

Os nad yw rhywbeth yn teimlo'n iawn, ymddiriedwch yn eich greddf. Gall rhoi gwybod yn gynnar helpu i atal niwed pellach a diogelu'r rhai a allai fod mewn perygl.

Dywedodd y Ditectif Uwcharolygydd Oliver Little, o Ystafell Weithrediadau'r Heddlu Arweiniol yn Heddlu Dinas Llundain:

"Gall y troseddau yma gael effaith ddinistriol oherwydd eu bod yn cael eu cyflawni gan bobl sydd wedi cael eu hymddiried i weithredu er lles gorau'r dioddefwr. Mae'r ffaith bod mwy na £51 miliwn wedi'i ddwyn oddi wrth bobl 70 oed a throsodd yn amlygu'r bygythiad sylweddol y mae'r math yma o dwyll yn ei beri i aelodau hŷn, ac weithiau fwy bregus, o'n cymunedau. Rydym am i deuluoedd, gofalwyr a'r rhai sy'n gyfrifol am reoli materion rhywun arall wybod beth yw'r arwyddion rhybudd ac adrodd am bryderon, er mwyn i ni allu diogelu'r rhai sydd mewn perygl yn well."
